In the heart of Menorca, the Son Vell estate stands as a masterful example of how architecture, restoration, and design can converge to breathe new life into historical heritage.

This project, led by EDM, has transformed an 18th-century manor house into a five-star boutique hotel, meticulously preserving its original essence.
The restoration of Son Vell was carried out using traditional methods and materials, with the goal of maintaining the authenticity of the building.

The architecture of the main house, Venetian in style, is distinguished by its south-facing arcades and porticoed galleries, providing shelter from the tramontana wind and evoking the harmony and proportions of the Palladian language.
Son Vell’s interior design blends original elements with contemporary touches, creating an atmosphere that reflects the history and culture of Menorca.

The 34 rooms and suites, spread between the main house and the restored agricultural buildings, feature a refined selection of antique furniture, natural fiber textiles, and contemporary art pieces—achieving a perfect balance between tradition and modernity.

Cotlin Raw rugs were selected for their authenticity, craftsmanship, and aesthetic harmony with the natural materials of the surroundings. Our handmade pieces add texture, warmth, and a subtle yet striking character to the rooms, suites, and common areas. The use of natural fibers, earthy tones, and timeless weaves aligns with the project’s philosophy: to honor the essential without compromising sophistication.

The transformation of Son Vell is a testament to the power of thoughtful and respectful design, and an inspiration to those seeking to preserve and elevate heritage through creativity and craft.
