Among sacred mountains and vast plains, Indian wool has been used for centuries as a raw material in textiles, traditional garments, and rugs. Today, this natural fiber continues to play a key role in the creation of handcrafted rugs with a unique character, thanks to its versatility and visual richness.

Indian wool comes from a wide variety of sheep breeds raised in different regions of the country, such as Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, or Uttar Pradesh. This diversity is reflected in its texture, color, and durability.

The Bhadohi area —also known as “the city of carpets”— is one of the historical hubs of production, where the art of handweaving has been passed down from generation to generation.

Unlike other, more homogeneous types of wool, Indian wool offers a broad sensory palette: from moderately coarse fibers to finer and softer options.
At Cotlin Raw, we use Indian wool in handwoven rugs, dhurries, and blends with other natural fibers.

Working with Indian wool highlights the value of using a local raw material: the wool is sourced, spun, and woven in the same region, honoring traditional craftsmanship while reducing the logistical footprint. This closeness between origin and production results in pieces with a strong identity, deeply connected to the land and to the hands that bring them to life.
